The starting gun will fire February 25, 2012 when adult Lynwood residents and Lynwood-based company employees race to lose a cumulative 2,000 pounds in 12-weeks by participating in the 2012 Lynwood Weight Loss Challenge. At stake:  $5,000 in combined Grand Prizes to the top weight loss team and individual.

The goal is to encourage the community to lose weight by eating healthy and learn the benefits of good nutrition and exercise. The Challenge will last for 12-weeks (ends May 19, 2012) and there will be rules.  Participants must register as a four-person team on Saturday, February 25^th(7 a.m. to 11 a.m.) and weigh-in every Saturday morning; both activities take place at Burke-Ham Park. In the end, cash prizes will be awarded to the 1^st Place Team and 1^st to 5^th Place for Men and for Women with the largest percent of body weight lost.

Participants must pay a $25.00 per person entry fee. A $1.00 per pound gained fine will be assessed every weigh-in. All entry fees and fines go directly into the prize pool. During the 12 weeks, healthy weight loss and lifestyle tips will be provided and door prizes awarded. An optional aerobics fitness class and a free boot camp class will be available on Saturday mornings as well as other activities during the week. An awards ceremony will be held at the first City Council meeting after the last weigh-in. Until supplies last, early registrations before February 25, will receive a free gift.
