Businesses Against Local Recycling Spot Ask Council To Deny Its Permit

Aside from not meeting zoning code requirements, the recycling center also attracted unwanted customers and rodents to the neighboring businesses.

Leer en Español.  Having been open for almost two years, about six years ago, the Lynwood Recycling Center allegedly managed to attract ill-mannered drunks, lingering homeless and a big rodent problem for neighboring businesses that complained before the city council on Tuesday night, urging them to deny a permit for the establishment. The manager of the center, which is located on the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and California Avenue, had asked for an appeal before the council Tuesday night, hoping to receive another chance. Lynwood Food4Less To Give Away Free Frito-Lay Chips, Friday

On Friday, May 11, Frito-Lay is partnering with Food4Less stores to promote its new products as part of ‘Free Flavor Friday’ and is giving away free chips.

On Friday, May 11, from 3 to 8 p.m., Frito-Lay is partnering with Food4Less stores across the country for Free Flavor Friday. As part of the event, Frito-Lay plans to give away more than 2 million sample bags of its new products, including Doritos Jacked tortilla chips in Enchilada Supreme and Smoky Chipotle BBQ. The stores will also be giving away samples of the newest Ruffles potato chip flavors, including BBQ Rib and Bacon and Cheddar Potato Skins flavors. Robbery At Local MetroPCS Store is 11th in Past 30 Days

A masked robber stole money and phones from the Lynwood phone store last Friday night.

Workers at a Lynwood MetroPCS store say they are not so shaken up now after being robbed by a masked man with a gun at the phone store, on Friday night. The store is located in a shopping center on the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Ernestine Avenue.   According to Jazmine Herrera, 22, who was one of the two employees working there at the time, the robbery took place in a matter of minutes.  “He just put us in the restroom and asked us where the cameras are…and he did his thing,” she said.  “I seriously thought it was a joke,” said Herrera of the situation. “It was weird.”  According to Herrera, the robber came in about five minutes before their usual closing time at 8 p.m. and stole money and phones from the store.  …

Lynwood Businesses May Pay New City Tobacco License Fees

The city proposed a $250 dollar license fee required of all tobacco retailers.

In fact the program only provided technical assistance to the city.  Tobacco-selling businesses in Lynwood may soon have to pay a $250 dollar tobacco license fee to the city after councilmembers voted Tuesday night to adopt the ordinance to the city municipal code. Under the proposed law businesses would not be able to sell individual cigars or packages containing less than five cigars. Retailers would not be allowed to let underage employees sell tobacco and tobacco look-alike products would be prohibited, such as candy cigarettes and chewing gum packaged to resemble tobacco products. 35 Percent Water Rate Increase Too Much, Say Lynwood Residents

Park Water Company customers voiced out their concerns about the company's proposal to increase water rates for the upcoming year.

Lynwood residents took to Bellflower’s city chambers on Wednesday to voice out concerns about a proposed 35 percent water rate increase to Park Water Company customers, starting with a 26 percent increase in 2013. The Downey-based company, which services 1,200 residences in Lynwood, and parts of Bellflower, Norwalk and Compton among other areas, submitted an application for the increase early this year to the California Public Utilities Commission, which regulates privately-owned public utilities. Maestros de Escuelas Locales Enseñan Amor Por la Música

Las Ágape Music School ha estado abierta en Lywnood por 14 años, ofreciendo a los estudiantes la posibilidad de que florezca su amor por la música.

El oriundo de Ecuador abrió su primera escuela de música en 1992 en la ciudad de Bellflower, bajo el nombre de Conniff Music Center. Agape Music School has been open in Lynwood for about 14 years, offering students a chance to blossom their love for music.

The Ecuadorian native opened up his first music school in 1992 in the city of Bellflower, under the name Conniff Music Center. In 1998 he moved it to Lynwood and renamed it Agape Music School, a name he chose carefully. “There were many churches that came to this school and I loved the word agape because it means love of God completely and of your neighbor,” said Conniff. That love of caring and helping his neighbors came at an early age when he taught his friends how to play the guitar when he was 17.
