Teacher Suspended for Telling Student: "Go Back To Mexico"
Shirley Bunn made the comment on Sept. 30 while distributing Title 1 forms to her eighth grade students at Barnett Junior High School.
Looks like this two-time "Teacher of the Year" will not be in the running to win the esteemed honor this year because of her derogatory comment to a Hispanic student: "Go back to Mexico."
Instead, 63-year-old Texas math teacher Shirley Bunn is fighting to keep her job.
Bunn made the comment on Sept. 30 while distributing Title 1 forms to her eighth grade students at Barnett Junior High School. Dallas-Fort Worth's Fox 4 reports that a disruptive student requested a Spanish-language version of the form, saying, "I'm Mexican. I'm Mexican."
According to public record, Bunn attempted to tell the student that he could retrieve forms translated into Spanish from the main office, but the student continued to repeat "I'm Mexican."
Bunn quickly responded, "[Then] go back to Mexico."

I commend Shirley Bunn. It is bad enough what teachers have to contend with but now we have this invasion of illegal immigrants who HATE this country and are bleeding the WORKING tax payers dry! She spoke the truth..something people can't do in my country any more!!! She is a hero! Joy in Jersey

You know what this mean...we are taking over and we are demanding respect, better get use to it. She can go back where ever her family came from because she sure does not look native american to me. She could of handled that situation very differently because that person was being very rude to her. I love this country, I am a tax payer and everything that I have I've worked for it....Thank you very much have a nice day!!!

How about you get used to speaking and reading English in an English speaking country instead of expecting everyone to bend over backwards to translate everything for you so you can be lazy have everything handed to you. It's ridiculous. Come to a country and refuse to learn the language effectively and yes, you will be an inconvenience. Better get used to it.

I'm not against Mexican's coming to this country LEGALLY... But regardless, each and everyone of them should be required to learn English, conversationally if not fluently. Don't blame us when we can't speak Spanish because you decided to come to the US without knowing how to properly speak English. That's your problem not ours and we shouldn't have to cater to that. Learn it or stay home.
